An Arctic Adventure – Snow Much to Read!

This year’s book fair operated slightly differently with visits by families being rostered in House groups to comply with social distancing guidelines. The theme was an Arctic Adventure – Snow Much to Read. San Salvador was decorated in a very chilly Arctic theme, complete with frost on the windows and icicles and snowflakes hanging from the rafters.

The event would not have happened without the help of many people who have given their time, ideas, enthusiasm, and imagination. Special thanks to Lindsay Jacklin, Chris & Sarah Tysoe, Reney Morrison, and all parents and staff who have given their time and support over the last few weeks – you all are amazing.

Our traditional Book Fair family pyjama night could not be held as usual due to COVID-19, but this did not deter our imaginative and creative staff. Mrs Basell jumped in straight away and said, “Let’s do a Virtual Bookfair night and live stream to our College community”. This was a fantastic idea, full of fun activities, stories, competitions and silly moments for our students and their families to enjoy at home while posting their responses online. Once again, this would not have happened without the support of staff. A big thank you to Mrs Basell, Ms Fretwell, Ms Keating, Mrs Wiles, Ms Hickey and of course Mr Jackson, for his superb live streaming expertise on the night.

Parents and families are to be congratulated as the Bookfair has raised approximately $7, 900.00 with 86 books donated for in-class libraries and the Learning Resource Centre. Given the modified circumstances this is a sensational effort by all who have supported the Book Fair this year. Rewards received from the Scholastic Book Fair will go towards purchasing education and learning resources for the students at Holy Cross College.

A very big thank you must go to Mrs Colleen Azzopardi, who puts so much time and effort into the Book Fair and in making the library such an inviting and creative learning space throughout the year.
