Dear Holy Cross College Community
The Assumption of Mary is the recognition of the end of Mary’s life on Earth and her return to heaven to be reunited with Jesus. Assumption and the Resurrection. Mary’s body was taken up to heaven by the power of her Son, whereas Jesus rose to heaven by his own power – the resurrection.
Thank you to our Assistant Deputy – Faith, Mr Ben Bull, and staff for the organisation of our Mass. Fr Bonaventure celebrated the Mass with us, reminding us that for those who have passed, they are in a happy place. Thank you to our students who participated in the readings and led the singing.

Staffing
Mrs Margaret McMahon has accepted the role as Literacy Consultant for CEWA for the Kimberley region and will be situated in the Broome office. Margaret will be leaving at the end of Term Three. Margaret has been instrumental in organising our Camino’s as well as being such a dedicated and highly regarded staff member. She will be greatly missed.
Mrs Vanja Basell has resigned from her position to pursue other interests. Although I haven’t worked with Vanja, I have heard lots of positive examples of her commitment and contribution to Holy Cross College.

Junior and Secondary Sports Carnivals
Thankfully we have had some great weather conditions for our carnivals. Thank you to Mr Liam Smith and out Physical Education Department for the organisation of the days and to the staff that have helped build such great inclusive spirit in our Houses. I received some very positive affirmations from parents. Thank you. Congratulations to all that participated!

Friends of Holy Cross (FHC)
Our Friends of Holy Cross members have been very busy. Thank you for your support with our Book Fair. Purchases equated to approximately $8000, with the rewards contributing towards literacy resources for the College. The planetarium has been a huge hit and is still on display in San Salvador if you wish to experience it.
Also, the FHC, organised a very successful Quiz Night last Friday. We had many staff members and parents participate and much fun was had by all. Thank you to Mrs Michelle Francis and the many parents that helped to organise the evening. It was a great night!
The Next FHC Meeting is on Monday 6 September at 6:30pm in our staffroom – the St James Centre. Please feel most welcome to attend.

Sunset Tour – Wednesday 18 August
Please join us this Wednesday for a brief information session followed by a tour of our College.
Please note that we have limited places left for Year Seven – 2022, and all application need to be received as soon as possible.

English
Year 10 English students have been studying Shakespeare. Period themed projects were created allowing students to use their creative minds combined with the literature theme and subject matter. The displays were impressive and interesting, with many hours of work put into them.

Ms Julie Hornby
