Book Week, Staffing, Teachers Professional Development, Australian Census, COVID and GAWA First Prize Winner

Dear Holy Cross College Community,

Thank you for your support in attending the launch of the ‘My LIFE’ framework and the Careers Expo, last Wednesday. Without the individual efforts of many staff and the good will of individuals, we would not have had such a successful event. We received a lot of positive feedback. I was extremely proud of what we achieved together. It was rewarding to have the involvement of Fr Bonaventure and our Parish members.  We now look forward to seeing the plans unfold.

Mr Paul Murphy Deputy of Enrichment and Mrs Susan Wilson Careers and Transition were instrumental in the My LIFE Pathway creation and Careers Expo community event.

Book Week

What a great ‘buzz’ there is around the College this week. Thank you to Mrs Colleen Azzopardi, and staff, who have made such an effort to engage the students. San Salvador, the Learning Resource Centre, looks amazing, with the set up for the ‘Space’ theme and the ‘rocket models’ that our Junior school students have constructed from recyclable materials, are incredible. It is a lot of work for a few days of enjoyment. Thank you for dressing up for the Book Week Parade; it has been so enjoyable to visit the classes and share our stories. Please support the family pyjama tonight. I hope all goes really well.

Reinvigorating a love for reading, the Book Fair offers new books for sale as a literacy resource fundraiser presented by Friends of Holy Cross.
Senior School students dress up with their House Teacher as part of Book Week.
Book Week Parade dress up is so much fun. The students get to wear their costumes all day during lessons.

Staffing 2022

Our Vice Principal, Mr Peter Collins, will be taking leave for the whole of 2022, with the intention of returning in 2023. We will have the opportunity to wish Peter well, towards the end of the year.

Congratulations to Deputy Principal of Learning, Mr Ryan Shelton, who has been successful in a gaining the role of Deputy of Learning and Innovation at Iona Presentation College, commencing 2022. We will farewell Ryan at the end of the year.

We welcome Mr Stewart Crainie as the Junior school Technologies Teacher. Stewart also teaches in Year Two alongside Class Teacher Miss Courtney George. Stewart comes to us with great experience in the technology domain.

Can you spot Mr Collin Vice Principal and Mr Ryan Shelton Deputy Principal of Learning?

Teaching and Learning

Students at Holy Cross College learn in very contemporary spaces. Our Teachers and Assistants are continually interacting with the students and presenting their lessons in exciting ways, aiming to engage every individual. Multi-level planning needs to occur. Effective practice is easily identifiable, in the classes during visits. Staff members also regularly share their teaching and learning experiences at ‘Professional Learning Community (PLC) Rotations after school hours.

Holy Cross College use different teaching styles to keep students engaged, challenged and progressing towards their learning goals.

Australian Census – 10 August 2021

The Australian census on 10 August 2021 will provide a snapshot of who Australians are and what is important to us.  The census is a key tool that government uses to determine how organisations, schools, church ministries and community groups are prioritised, funded and empowered to best operate in our State.

If your faith is important to you or if you identify with Christian values, please use your voice in the Australian census when asked your religion.

This is an important opportunity to demonstrate the significance of faith-based families in our West Australian community and will support endeavours to secure equitable access to opportunities and resources.

COVID-19

As you may be aware, Premier Mark McGowan has this afternoon advised that a ‘weak positive’ case of COVID-19 has been reported by WA Health Department.

WA Health Department is working on a list of potential exposure sites and these will be added to the Healthy WA website as information is confirmed.

Of importance, Perth Airport Terminal 3/4 (Qantas Domestic Terminal) has been identified as a potential exposure site as follows:

– Tuesday 20 July between 4.00am – 7.00am

– Tuesday 27 July between 4.00am – 6.00am

Any individuals who were at a potential exposure site at the identified times must be tested immediately, quarantine until a negative result is returned and monitor for symptoms unless contacted individually by WA Health Department.
