Br Pat Kelly cfc Middle School Academic Scholarship

Congratulations to Clarissa See from St Helena’s Catholic Primary School who is the recipient of the 2021 Br Pat Kelly cfc Middle School Academic Scholarship. Clarissa’s strength is in writing showing a deft talent well beyond her years. Clarissa describes herself as a very sociable student and has a particular interest in sport, especially badminton, tennis and basketball. Clarissa also enjoys art. Clarissa’s ambition is to study medicine to become a doctor. Clarissa will formally receive her scholarship at the Holy Cross College Annual Celebration Evening in October 2020.

More than 20 students completed the scholarship examination conducted by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) on Friday 8 May 2020. The ACER Scholarship Tests consist of a set of academic ability tests used to select students for the award of a scholarship in schools around Australia. The tests require students to demonstrate a range of skills such as the ability to interpret, infer, deduce and think critically. These are the soft skills often referred to as the 21st Century skills and align with the Holy Cross College Six C’s of education: Creativity, Critical Thinking, Collaboration, Communication, Character and Citizenship. They are not curriculum-based and do not test the ability to retrieve learned knowledge. The value of the scholarship is in excess of $12,000 as it covers the cost of tuition fees for Years 7 to 9.

The scholarship is named in honour of Br Pat Kelly who was a highly respected educator in Western Australia with a passion to see children achieve their personal best in all their endeavours. Br Pat was a foundation member of the Holy Cross College Board.

Congratulations to Clarissa once again and look forward to Clarissa joining Holy Cross College in 2021.
