Celebrations, Staff & New Bell Times 2023

Advent Prayer

God of hope, who brought love into this world,
be the love that dwells between us.
God of hope, who brought peace into this world,
be the peace that dwells between us.
God of hope, who brought joy into this world,
be the joy that dwells between us.
God of hope, the rock we stand upon,
be the centre, the focus of our lives
always, and particularly this Advent time.

Amen

This Sunday is the second Sunday of Advent, where we wait and prepare for the Nativity of Jesus. Over four Sundays we prepare ourselves for the coming of Christ, where we celebrate the birth of Jesus at Christmas. The joyful expectation of Advent leads to the second season of the liturgical year, which is Christmas. The Christmas season takes place until the 6 January. The 12 days of Christmas is the period that marks the span between the birth of Christ and the coming of Epiphany.

Work Placements

Thank you to Orilee Ryan, Susan Wilson and Tara Gray, for setting up the work placements for the year Ten students. Thank you to staff who went and visited the students at their placements, as well as the teachers who supervised the students who were left on site. Thank you to our parents for also finding placements. It was a major operation, but well worth it for many of the students.

Year Six Transition Mass

Thank you to Jessie De Leon, Fiona De Courcier, Daniel Bateman, Carmela Kovacevich and staff, for the organisation of the Year Six Transition Mass. Fr Patrick celebrated the Mass and really connected with the students, who were exemplary in their conduct and display of reverence. Thank you to our parents for attending and supporting the transition process.

Sports Awards Breakfast

Thank you to Liam Smith, Marnie Barrett and the whole PE/Health Team for organising such a large-scale event for the students and parents. From all reports it was well organised and flowed seamlessly. Congratulations to all of our award recipients.

Lego Club

Thank you to Chris McRae for organising the end of year exhibition, entitled ‘Collaborative Winter Village’. The students’ models are excellent and can be viewed in San Salvador.  The Lego Club End of Year Celebration is next Tuesday 6 December from 3:15pm – 4:15pm in Huasahuasi. Afternoon tea will be provided, and some awards presented. Well done to all!

PK Christmas Concert

It was fantastic to see our PK students performing in San Salvador to a large parent group. It was a whole bundle of cuteness, with many of the children doing their own solo acts from time to time. Priceless! I was surprised how confident the students were, and they knew all the words and actions. Well done to Jo Borg and Linda Gorton. It was excellent!

Night of the Notables

I recently visited Tarma to see the amazing work and displays that the students in the Strive program have completed. Thank you to Gabbe McKinnon for inspiring the students to create such a high standard of work and leading the evening for the parent participation. There was certainly some very interesting Notables! There was so much to learn. Thank you, also to Iona Scott for her support and contribution.

The Arts

We recently had four winning student entries into the City of Swan, ‘ Colour my World’ art competition.  Thank you to our Visual Arts Teacher, Josie Wise, for supporting the students. Congratulations to:

Years 4 to 6:

  • Second Prize: We are one (Audriana Del Rosario)
  • Third Prize: A celebration of Chinese New Year (Caleb Fong)

Years 7 to 9: Third Prize; The Colours of Culture (Amanat Dhillon)

Years 10 to 12: First Prize; Bountiful Festival (Chrvy Galicinao).

The AGM was held this week for the College Advisory Council (CAC) and the Friends of Holy Cross (FHC). Thank you to our parents for the organisation of the evening andyou’re your attendance. Thank you to Rodney Gardiner, Lee Pearson, Sr Joanne Dickson, Matt Fry and Fr Bona for their time, knowledge, and advice throughout the year.

We did have vacancies on the FHC as five parents finished due to their term being complete. Michelle Francis has finished her time as President of the FHC and we farewelled her on the evening. Michelle has been the main driver of all the fundraising initiatives and has spent so much time over the seven years, with the team, organising events and implementing ideas. We thank Michelle Francis, Sarah Love, Chantelle Moodley, Tarquin Allen, and Olivia O’Neill whose terms have all ended. They have been an amazing team.
