Harmony Day

It is very important that we celebrate Australia’s cultural diversity. Harmony Day is about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. Australia’s success as a multicultural nation is underwritten by our values, our mutual understanding of our rights and responsibilities as citizens and national language and our respect for each other.

On Friday, Holy Cross College students and staff were invited to dress in their traditional & cultural outfits, which they had the opportunity to showcase at the parade that was held during recess. The College Café offered a wide array of Cultural Cuisine during recess and lunch. Celebrations continued throughout lunch, where students were treated to a number of stalls and activities which included Aboriginal art and history, origami, Cultural dress displays, Harmony Day ribbons and media vlogs. Students were also entertained with a cultural showcase that included live cultural music and the “showstopper”- a student choreographed African dance. What an outstanding performance it was from these students!

The message of respect and belonging can be lived by each of us, every day, not just on Harmony Day. As a culturally diverse College we can make a difference and connect with our own communities, firstly within the College but also reaching out into our College communities.
