Students from Year 5 and 6 will be participating in a student workshop presented by Legal Aid WA this Thursday 15 October from 1:30pm to 2:30pm. Parents are invited to attend a parent workshop also presented by Legal Aid from 4:00pm to 5:00pm.
Legal Aid will speak to students and parents about the:
- Age of criminal responsibility,
- Young people and the law,
- Common offences,
- Cyber safety &
- Cyberbullying
A law was introduced in April 2019 that means that it is an offence to distribute an image without consent in Australia. This means that any person over the age of 10 years old may be charged with this offence, if the image is of someone under the age of 16, or they do not freely give consent to that image being shared. Legal Aid WA will discuss the language in the law, and what it means for students when they are taking and distributing images, considering how this law helps to protect themselves and others from harm.
If you wish to attend the parent workshop, please contact the front office prior to Thursday.
