Holy Cross College is renowned for its future focused approach to teaching and learning and its contemporary classroom design and furnishings. The classroom is not confined to four walled rooms but extends beyond the traditional classroom to breakouts spaces, collaborative nooks and outside gardens and reflection areas. Technology allows learning to occur anywhere anytime by collecting data and processing information on the spot. New pedagogies for deep learning encourage stimulation of all five senses; touch, smell, taste, sight and sound. Active learning and movement are encouraged. The world is our classroom from farms to factories, cities to towns, gardens to forests, rivers to the sea, parks to playgrounds, museums to art galleries, and schools to universities. There is a celebration of language, culture, faith and life. Incursions, excursions, camps, retreats, pilgrimage walks, dancing, singing and much more abound. This is LIFE Week at Holy Cross College.
Amidst the constraints of the Phase Four COVID-19 restrictions we have been fortunate to hold most LIFE Week events. Throughout the week more than 1,100 students have participated in a range of events including: camps to Rottnest Island, New Norcia and Serpentine; excursions to Perth City, Perth Zoo, Red Hill Waste Treatment Plant, Kings Park, Parliament House, Perth Mint, Universities and TAFE Colleges, places of historical significance and many more places; incursions by cultural dancers and speakers; and Camino pilgrimage walks to Fremantle, Subiaco, South Perth, and New Norcia.
LIFE Week is full of fun, adventure and learning. Twitter followers can see many examples of the sensational events by exploring the link #HCCellenbrook. The attached video presents a mash-up of clips and photos from LIFE Week across Kindergarten to Year 12.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all staff members for their time, energy and enthusiasm in organising an amazing week. We are truly blessed to have such a dedicated and talented team of teachers and support staff.
