Middle and Senior School Athletics Carnival- Thursday 13 June

Years Seven-Twelve College House Athletics Carnival

The Years Seven-Twelve College House Athletics Carnival will be held on Thursday, 13 June 2019 on the College oval from 9.20am – 3.00pm.

Attendance

Often, the outcome of many carnivals comes down to only a few points. The winning House may not have had the fastest runners in every race, but had the greatest participation by students. As this is a normal school day and the College Athletics Carnival is part of the school’s extra-curricular programme, it is expected that all students will be in attendance. Attendance at compulsory school events is a reflection of students and parents commitment to their enrolment agreement and a reflection on their values in regard to giving support to the wider community. Every effort will be made to provide opportunities for students of all abilities to be able to take part in events on the day.

The procedure for the day will be as follows:

Participation

Students are encouraged to participate in as many events as they are capable.

Track events

Divisions

Where possible, in short distances (100m, 200m, 400m), “A-D division” races will be conducted.  After this, races will be filled with the aim of having a representative from each House in each race.

Points/Age Champions

A competitor that races in a lower division will not be disadvantaged as overall rankings will be used to determine points and for Age Champion calculations.

Order

The track program always takes preference over the field program.  Year 7 students always go first. Students can place their names at a field event and then move to the track event. Once completed they head back to the field event.

Field events

Divisions

Competitors are free to access field event sites at any time during the 45 minute window for their age group. Competitors will be permitted three (3) attempts. Time restrictions may impact this but every effort will be made to ensure fairness for everyone.

Student Organisation

Arrival time

Extended HTG times will run on Thursday, 13 June 2019. Students will attend morning HTG as normal with this time used for final organisation, motivational activities before moving down to the oval ready for a 9am start.

Age Champions

Age champions will be calculated from competitor’s best six (6) events from a possible ten. Champion and runner up medallions are awarded to each age group and gender.

Champion House Announcement

Results will be used to calculate an overall Champion House. These will be announced at the conclusion of the Carnival.

Wet Weather

In the event the forecast is for inclement weather it may necessitate the postponement of the carnival. A decision prior to the day will be communicated to students, and via email to parents. Normal timetable will operate if this was the case.

Parents and Spectators

Parents and spectators are most welcome. A fold up chair is recommended.

The support of Parents/Guardians is essential for this important event on the College calendar.
