Roblox is an open-world platform where users can create games or play games made by other users. It is very popular among children and has seen a recent surge in users since the Covid-19 Pandemic. The Wall Street Journal recently reported that 32.6 million users log on to Roblox every single day. The increased number of users accessing Roblox means that the app developers are finding it difficult to monitor extremely inappropriate content. Roblox have stated that they are currently working on increasing parental controls and improving content moderation.
In the meantime, parents can:
- Set up their child’s account so that inappropriate content, games and language are filtered out.
- Use the account settings to restrict the platform to only allow games that Roblox deems appropriate for younger students.
- Set up a PIN so that children are unable to change the restrictions.
It is however, important to remember that no online platform is 100-percent safe and parents are advised to keep an eye on the content their child is accessing through this app. Further information can be found via the Common Sense Media website, which recommends Roblox as an app appropriate for children aged 13 and over.
