Today, the Year Five students had the opportunity to participate in an Italian excursion.
The students travelled to Lake Vasto to see a monument dedicated to Italian migrants who came to Australia from one of Perth’s sister cities: La Citta` di Vasto”, in Abruzzo, a region in the centre of Italy. Students had the opportunity to learn about Italian migration to Western Australia.
Students also had the opportunity to learn about Italian culture at the Laguna Bocce Club in Dianella. Laguna Bocce Club represents the region of Veneto in northern Italy. The members of the club taught students and teachers how to play Italian Bocce. Everyone really enjoyed the challenge and the experience. All the members of the Laguna Club were amazing, making us feel very welcome. The students enjoyed a delicious Italian home-made lunch provided by the Club, they engaged in conversations practicing their Italian with members of the club, asking about the history of the club and how challenging it was to emigrate to Australia.
It was a cultural and memorable experience!
