Year Five update

During Autumn Term, the Year Five classes will be investigating the Big Idea, “How can we influence change?”. In Science, we are looking at states of matter and how these are different according to their properties. In small groups we completed tasks to compare the volume and weight of solids, liquids and gases.

We have also been ‘tuning in’ to people around the world who have created change through their influence. These people included Bob Geldof (LiveAid concert for famine), Bill Gates (the Gates Foundation trying to eradicate diseases), Malala (petitioning for all children to be educated) and Nelson Mandela (fighting racism in South Africa). After watching videos and reading news articles, students completed a ‘flat chat’ which involved silently discussing the people by completing the prompts I see, I think, I wonder and responding to others by writing comments on large sheets of paper. We are looking forward to learning more about how we can create change ourselves!
