On Thursday 30 July twelve students from Years Eleven and Twelve attended the Christian Porter Youth Leader Forum hosted here at Holy Cross. These students as well as students from twelve other schools attended the forum to hear from Christian Porter and Justin Langer. Christian and Justin talked about what it means to lead and be a good leader followed by a question and answer session, where students were able to ask anything.
Both Christian and Justin gave insight into what it takes to be a great leader whether titled as a leader or not. They both stressed that leadership was not about making popular decisions, but rather the right decision and everyone is a leader to some capacity. One of the standouts for most of the students were the four key points that Justin said made a great leader, with most making sure to write them down.
The students had this to say about the forum:
The main take away for me was the advice from Justin saying be careful of the media, and don’t look to them to know how good or bad you are. Karys
I’d like to say a few things I learnt from the Leaders Forum was that continue to persevere and encourage those around you to be the best they can be. Set your goals but remember to write them down this will take you far. Michelle
The Christian Porter Leadership Forum was a very useful event that helped us to expand our leadership skills. Throughout the event, Christian and Justin helped us to recognise what makes a good leader and therefore taught us how to deal with challenges and adversaries as they arise within leadership. Moreover, they gave us advice on how to reach our goals and keep us motivated throughout our endeavours. Sophie
