History

Grounded in faith and a caring community, our students have found joy in learning and have been empowered to achieve their personal best since 2010.

In the late 1990’s, as the area started to develop from its rural background into a suburban redevelopment, the Catholic Archdiocese of Perth started to consider the need for a high school to serve nearby families. In 1999, Ellenbrook Catholic Primary School (renamed later in the year to St Helena’s Catholic Primary School) had opened with 45 students and started to rapidly grow.

Over the next ten years, plans started to take shape on what a high school in the area could look like and offer. The school was to reflect the latest thinking in education, with future-focused technology embedded throughout the campus as an integral part of the school’s design and operations, providing a more interactive and experiential learning experience than in schools past.

In 2007 architectural plans were finalised, with the first stage of buildings to be ready for enrolments in 2008. Those first buildings included general learning areas, an ‘Information Centre’ (library), food tech, science, art and design labs, and a cafeteria. After consultation with the College Board – the founding members encompassing the then Principal, Business Manager, local parish priest, members of the Ellenbrook community and representatives from Catholic Education Western Australia (CEWA) – the Archbishop Barry Hickey announced that this new school would be called Holy Cross College. This name had linked the school with the Saint Helena of the Cross Parish, which was opened in 2012.

The College officially opened in 2010 with 69 students in Years 7 and 8. Over the following years, the College quickly expanded, with the initial stages to cater for Years 9 to 12 completed first following by the extension into the primary years and early learning facilities. Today, Holy Cross College caters for nearly 1300 students from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12.

We’ve come a long way in a short amount of time, but have stayed true to our vision, mission and core values.
