Principal’s Blog – Mr Albert Borrello

Dear Holy Cross College Parents and Families,

A Prayer for Mary, Mother of the Church, in the Month of May

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

The Little Mermaid
What an incredible celebration we witnessed with our recent production of The Little Mermaid! Our students and staff truly embodied our college motto of “having life to the full” as they brought this beloved Disney story to life on stage. The dedication, creativity, and talent displayed by every participant was nothing short of extraordinary. From the stunning costumes to the beautiful voices that filled our theatre, each person gave their personal best while forming deep connections with their fellow cast and crew members. This production exemplified everything we value at Holy Cross College! Thank you to all who were in involved!

First Holy Communion
Congratulations to all our students who recently made their First Holy Communion. This sacred sacrament of initiation holds profound significance in our Catholic faith and marks a beautiful milestone in their spiritual journey. It is this sacramental way of life that distinguishes us as a Catholic educational community, where we don’t simply teach subjects, but nurture the whole person through our LIFE Pillars. Witnessing these young people receive the Eucharist for the first time reminds us all of the grace and blessing that flows through our college community.

Walk for Reconciliation
This week’s Walk for Reconciliation embodied our College’s unity with our First Nations community as our Middle and Senior School came together to honour and learn from our First Nations ancestors. The connection we forge with the traditional custodians of this land is vital to who we are as Australians and as a Catholic community. I was thrilled to see our new Ngala Maya Yarning Circle being embraced by students across all year levels. This sacred space will serve as a place of learning, reflection, and genuine connection for years to come.

HCC Orienteering
Thank you to Mrs Sibbald for her outstanding initiative in establishing our Orienteering Program at the college. Her vision and dedication have our students now competing confidently in regional competitions and many returning home with well-deserved medals. To our Junior School parents, please keep an eye out for information about Badminton training sessions beginning in the mornings; another wonderful opportunity for our younger students to discover new talents and interests.

Please keep our Year 11 and 12 students in your prayers as they navigate their mid-year examination period.

Camino Day

Thank you to  Pia Hookway for her exceptional coordination and leadership of Camino Day and to all Year Level Leaders who stepped up with such professionalism and enthusiasm, ensuring students felt supported and engaged throughout the journey.  There was something truly profound about walking in the footsteps of Dom Salvado today. As we traced the paths once travelled, we weren’t simply taking a walk—we were connecting our students to our mission of journey together in the footsteps of Christ. Thanks to all the staff who supported our students.

HASS Week

Thank you to Karen Taylor, Cassandra Bull and the Humanities team for the outstanding HASS Week experienced across the College.  A magnificent HASS Avocado breakfast was celebrated with many incursions and a range of activities enjoyed throughout the week.

Heavenly Father, we ask for Your blessing and guidance upon our senior students during this time. Grant them clarity of mind, strength of spirit, and the perseverance to do their personal best. Help them to trust in the gifts You have given them and to approach their studies with confidence and peace. We place them in Your loving care. Amen.

Kind regards

Mr Albert Borrello
