Pathways, Purpose and Possibility
Over the past fortnight, our College community has been immersed in an important and exciting theme; pathways and careers. It is a time when we are reminded that education is not simply about the here and now, but about preparing our young people for life beyond Holy Cross College, as they step confidently into the wider world.
This focus was brought to life most powerfully through the voice of one of our own students, Logan (Year 11), who spoke to our Year 10 cohort alongside his peer, Caden. Both young men represented our Senior School with great maturity and authenticity, sharing their personal journeys with honesty and insight.
Logan reflected on his early days at the College, recalling that he was ‘pretty nervous because everything was new,’ yet through perseverance he grew into a confident and capable learner. His story is a powerful reminder that transformation does not happen overnight — it is shaped through experience, challenge and support.
What stood out in Logan’s reflection was his growing clarity about his future. As he progressed through Years 9 and 10, he began ‘thinking more seriously about my future and what I wanted to do after school,’ exploring options that aligned with his strengths and interests.
His decision to pursue a vocational pathway, including a Certificate II in Electrotechnology, highlights an important message for our students and families: there is no single pathway to success. Logan spoke with confidence about the value of this choice, noting that it has shown him ‘there are many different ways to achieve your goals’ and has given him a meaningful head start toward his future career.
This sense of purpose, combined with the independence and responsibility he has developed, is exactly the transformation we seek for all students. His journey speaks directly to the role we play as a College — to walk alongside each young person as they discover their gifts, discern their direction, and prepare to make a contribution beyond our gates.
This partnership with families was at the heart of our recent Year 9 and 10 Parent Information Evening and Mini Career Expo. The evening provided a valuable opportunity to explore subject selections, future pathways, and post-school options, supporting students to make informed decisions about their next steps.
Events like this reinforce that pathway planning is not a single decision, but a journey, one that is best navigated together. The Expo, in particular, helped students and families engage with the diverse opportunities available, encouraging conversations about aspirations, strengths and possibilities.
I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all of the providers who joined us for the Expo, and to CEWA for their ongoing support in helping us deliver meaningful pathway opportunities for our students.
At Holy Cross College, we are committed to the formation of young people who are not only academically prepared, but who are confident, capable and future-focused. Logan’s journey exemplifies this transformation, from a nervous Year 7 student to a focused young man actively building his future.
His advice to younger students captures this beautifully: ‘Keep an open mind about the different opportunities and pathways available to you. You never know where they might lead.’
I encourage all families to continue these important conversations at home and to connect with our Careers team, who are always available to provide guidance, support and clarity as your child navigates their pathway.
Together, we can ensure that every student leaves Holy Cross College not only with qualifications, but with purpose, direction and confidence for the journey ahead.
Life to the Full.
