Dear Holy Cross College Community,
It has been an incredibly busy two weeks at our College, filled with remarkable events that have showcased the talent, dedication, and spirit of our students, staff, and families. I am delighted to share with you the outstanding success of several key activities that have enriched our College life.
Junior School Cross Country Carnival
Our Junior School students demonstrated exceptional determination and sportsmanship at the Cross Country Carnival. The enthusiasm and encouragement shown by participants of all abilities was truly immense. Students pushed themselves to achieve personal bests while supporting their peers with genuine care and celebration. The event perfectly embodied our College values of personal best and connection. Well-done Frayne on taking out the Shield!
Social Justice Immersion
The Social Justice Immersion stands as one of the most significant and transformative experiences our College offers. This program is particularly special to Holy Cross College as it embodies our commitment to developing compassionate global citizens who understand their responsibility to serve others. Our students engaged deeply with issues of inequality, poverty, and social injustice, gaining profound insights into the lived experiences of marginalised communities. The conversations, reflections, and action that emerged from this immersion demonstrate the maturity and social consciousness of our young people. This program continues to be a cornerstone of our Catholic identity, challenging our students to live out the Gospel message of love and service in tangible ways.
Frayne Feast Day
Our celebration of Frayne Feast Day was a beautiful tribute to the legacy of the Sisters of Mercy. Frayne students across all year levels participated in meaningful liturgical celebrations and service activities that honored our foundational charism. The reverence and engagement shown by our community during this sacred time reinforced our connection to our Catholic heritage and mission.
NEAS Half Day Carnival
The NEAS Half Day Carnival provided an excellent opportunity for our students to compete against other schools in a spirit of healthy competition and mutual respect. Our teams represented Holy Cross College with distinction, displaying not only their sporting prowess but also exemplary sportsmanship. The camaraderie and school pride evident throughout the day was a source of great satisfaction.
Middle/Senior School Interhouse Athletics Carnival
The Inter-house Athletics Carnival was a spectacular display of house spirit, athletic achievement, and community unity. Students from Years 7-12 participated with incredible enthusiasm, whether competing in events or cheering from the sidelines. The friendly rivalry between houses created an electric atmosphere while maintaining the respect and encouragement that characterises our College culture.
NAIDOC Week Celebrations
Our NAIDOC Week celebrations were a profound demonstration of the close and respectful connection we have fostered with our First Nations community. This relationship is one built on mutual respect, learning, and shared commitment to reconciliation. I extend my gratitude to all community members, families, and guests who joined us for our moving NAIDOC Liturgy and smoking ceremony. These sacred moments allowed us to honour and learn from the wisdom of our First Nations peoples in a spirit of reverence and unity. I must also acknowledge the spectacular Big Ideas NAIDOC display in our Junior School, which showcased the creativity, research, and deep engagement of our students with First Nations culture and history. Life to the Full at Holy Cross College!
Prayer for Peace
As we celebrate these joyful achievements within our College community, we remain mindful of our brothers and sisters around the world who are suffering due to conflict and war. Let us join together in prayer:
Loving God, Prince of Peace,
We come before you with hearts heavy for those affected by war and violence across our world.
We pray for all who live in fear, who have lost loved ones, and who have been displaced from their homes.
Grant wisdom to world leaders, courage to peacemakers, and comfort to the suffering.
Help us to be instruments of your peace in our own communities,
spreading love where there is hatred, hope where there is despair.
May your light shine through the darkness of conflict,
and may peace reign in every heart and every nation.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Kind regards
Albert Borrello
